The story
Hushlit experiences the world through sound before anything else, and he hears far more of it than most. The hum of lights, the scrape of chairs, the echo of a busy hall. Noises the other Tamitos never notice arrive all at once, and a cheerful, crowded room can quickly become too much. For a long time the only thing that helped was covering his ears and slipping away. Then Cleverkin built him a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, and everything changed: with the roar turned down, Hushlit could finally stay. And in the quiet he discovered a gift: he hears the things others miss, the small sounds of a friend who is struggling long before they say a word.
